What Drew McIntyre Changed to Return Stronger Than Ever in WWE

Over the past year, Drew McIntyre has endured some of the toughest challenges of his WWE career. From grueling rivalries to physical setbacks, the Scottish warrior has fought through adversity both inside and outside the ring. Now, as he gears up for his much-anticipated clash against Randy Orton at this weekend’s “Saturday Night’s Main Event,” McIntyre is revealing the rigorous process he undertook to reclaim his peak form.

McIntyre’s last year has been marked by brutal battles. His fierce feud with CM Punk drew significant attention, followed by a heated contest against Damian Priest. The latter encounter was especially intense, culminating in an injury where McIntyre suffered glass in his eye prior to WrestleMania 41. Despite the injury, McIntyre emerged victorious, with the rivalry concluding in a steel cage match at the May edition of “Saturday Night’s Main Event.”

That match against Priest marked McIntyre’s last appearance before a brief hiatus. His return on “Friday Night SmackDown” last week was highlighted by a confrontation with Randy Orton, which quickly escalated when Orton delivered a sudden RKO, signaling the brewing tension between the two veterans. This weekend’s event promises to settle that score once and for all.

In a recent interview, McIntyre reflected candidly on the physical and mental work he has poured into his comeback. “When I strip down in front of the fans, they’re going to see the result of countless hours in the gym,” he said confidently. “Honestly, I feel better now than I have in at least six or seven years.”

Taking a step back during his time away from WWE allowed McIntyre to analyze his performance from a new perspective. He realized that despite outward appearances, he wasn’t giving his full effort. “From an outside view, people might say my microphone work, in-ring skills, and physique were solid, but honestly, I was only operating at about 65 percent,” he admitted.

Known for once boasting to fitness magazines about his ability to eat anything while maintaining an impressive physique, McIntyre confessed that he had to completely overhaul his lifestyle. “For the first time, I hired professionals to guide me properly—nutritionists, trainers, rehab specialists. I am doing things like stretching and rehab exercises I never considered before. It’s incredible how much that has changed my body and how I feel,” he explained.

The results have been striking. McIntyre feels as agile and energized as he did prior to winning the 2020 Royal Rumble, a pinnacle moment in his career. “My movement is better, my endurance has improved, and overall, I feel incredible,” he said with renewed enthusiasm.

McIntyre is determined to prove that this renewed dedication will translate to success in the ring. He expressed some frustration at not having seen the need for this change sooner but embraces the clarity gained from self-reflection. “You have to step outside your daily routine and honestly assess where you can improve. When I looked in the mirror, I saw I wasn’t giving my all. My diet was poor, and my sleep was inconsistent. I committed to leaving no stone unturned.”

As he prepares to face Randy Orton, McIntyre promises fans a fierce competitor ready to deliver his best. His story of reinvention and relentless work ethic adds depth to the upcoming match, making it not just a battle between two stars but a testament to resilience and determination.

The wrestling world will be watching closely to see if Drew McIntyre’s hard work pays off, and judging by his words, he is more than ready to reclaim his place at the top.
