Rey Mysterio shares update on in-ring return and reveals details about his injury

One of the most respected names in wrestling history, Rey Mysterio is preparing for yet another return to the ring. Absent from WWE programming since just before WrestleMania 41, the legendary master of the 619 has kept fans waiting eagerly for news. And now, there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.
In a recent appearance on the podcast LA PLATICA, Mysterio openly discussed what happened during the SmackDown episode where he got injured. According to him, it all occurred in a surprisingly simple way. “At the moment, I just heard a dry sound, a pop, and I immediately knew something was wrong. It was my groin muscle,” explained the veteran. The injury happened when he attempted to exit the ring to chase his opponent, and the sudden movement caused the tear.
In addition to the groin injury, Mysterio revealed that he used his time away to address another physical issue — a perforated eardrum. Now, with physical therapy already underway, his return is getting closer. “I’ve started my recovery process. I’m feeling better and I’m hoping to be back in the ring by August,” he said optimistically.
Before stepping away, Mysterio had been involved in a feud with El Grande Americano, also known as Chad Gable, a member of the American Made faction. However, with Gable also currently sidelined due to an upcoming surgery, Mysterio’s comeback could take a new direction.
Even without a confirmed opponent, Mysterio’s return is expected to shake up the WWE landscape. With his unmistakable skill set and high-flying style that has influenced generations, he remains a true icon of the sport.
With over three decades of experience and unforgettable runs in promotions like WCW, ECW, AAA, NJPW, Lucha Underground and of course WWE, Mysterio’s career is nothing short of legendary. His accolades include the WWE Championship, the World Heavyweight Championship, the Intercontinental and United States titles, as well as five tag team championship reigns. He also won the 2006 Royal Rumble and was officially inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023.
Whether it is against a former rival or a new challenger, Rey Mysterio’s return is only a matter of time, and when it happens, it will be met with the same energy and respect that has defined his storied journey.
