Cena Retains Title as Referee Gets Taken Out in Wild Night of Champions Moment

The main event of Night of Champions had everything: chaos, surprise interference, and one of the most unexpected moments of the night when referee Charles Robinson was taken out by none other than John Cena.

The Undisputed WWE Champion faced CM Punk in a highly anticipated showdown, but what began as a fair fight quickly descended into total mayhem. Seth Rollins and his allies Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker stormed the match. Punk was ambushed, and Cena got thrown out of the ring.

With the original referee incapacitated, Rollins saw a golden opportunity to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and called for another referee. Charles Robinson, a longtime WWE official with decades of experience, rushed toward the ring without knowing what was about to happen.

As he neared the apron, Robinson was suddenly intercepted by Cena, who launched a powerful shoulder block to prevent Rollins from making the match official. The impact sent Robinson flying, drawing both gasps and laughter from the crowd in one of the wildest visuals of the event.

Despite all the chaos, Cena and Punk managed to continue the match on their own. But Rollins once again interfered at a critical moment, costing Punk a real chance at the championship. Cena seized the moment and pinned Punk to retain the title.

Robinson, who began refereeing in the late 1990s with WCW and became well known for his resemblance to Ric Flair, earning the nickname “Little Naitch,” reassured fans after the event. Posting on X, the 60-year-old wrote simply, “I am alive,” confirming he was okay despite the intense bump.

Now with the title still around his waist, Cena is expected to face a new challenger. Earlier that night, Cody Rhodes won the King of the Ring tournament, setting the stage for what could be a huge SummerSlam match between the two.
