Blake Monroe Might Be Turning Heel Soon in NXT, Reports Say

Blake Monroe, formerly known to AEW fans as Mariah May, recently made her debut in NXT to great fanfare. However, new reports suggest that a dramatic shift in her character could already be on the horizon.
The former AEW standout debuted in NXT last month as a babyface, quickly earning the support of the crowd. But according to a recent report, WWE is already considering a heel turn for her in the near future.
A Possible Shift to the Dark Side
According to Fightful Select, creative plans for Monroe may include a heel turn. While no exact date has been confirmed, the report notes that WWE is thinking long-term about how her character will evolve on NXT television.
This change would mark a big departure from her current presentation, but in many ways, it would bring her back to the role that made her a standout performer in AEW.
Remembering “The Glamour” Era
When Monroe—then known as Mariah May—joined AEW in November 2023, she was immediately positioned as a heel. She debuted as the obsessed understudy of then-champion “Timeless” Toni Storm. Her character mimicked Storm, interfered in matches, and fully leaned into the persona.
Her definitive heel turn came after she won the 2024 Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament. In a shocking moment, she attacked her mentor Toni Storm, solidifying her new identity as a ruthless villain.
Taking on the nickname “The Glamour,” she went on to defeat Storm at AEW All In, held in her home country of England, to win the AEW Women’s World Championship. It was a defining moment that proved she could dominate as a cunning heel.
What’s Next in NXT?
In NXT, Monroe has been introduced as a rising fan favorite. She made her in-ring debut at a live event on June 27, defeating Laney Reid.
She is currently feuding with the Fatal Influence faction, which has led to a high-stakes tag match scheduled for The Great American Bash on July 12. At the event, Monroe will team up with TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace to face NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henley.
This high-profile match could be the perfect opportunity to start planting the seeds of her eventual heel turn.
