WWE Introduces New Ring Name for Hikuleo After Bold Debut

Hikuleo’s debut at Night of Champions marked not only his official first appearance on WWE programming but also a major change in his wrestling identity. The former New Japan Pro Wrestling star, who had been competing in non-televised matches under his original name, finally appeared on-screen — and with a new name.
During the event, Hikuleo played a crucial role in Solo Sikoa’s victory over Jacob Fatu, helping the new Bloodline leader capture the United States Championship. Despite his direct involvement in the outcome, one detail caught the attention of observant fans. At no point during the broadcast did the commentators refer to him as Hikuleo.
The absence of his original name was no accident. After the event, WWE officially confirmed the wrestler’s new identity. The company had already trademarked the name “Talla Tonga” earlier in 2024, but surprised fans by introducing him as Tala Tonga, with a slightly different spelling, during the Night of Champions post-show.
In the post-show interview, as Solo Sikoa celebrated his win, a graphic appeared on-screen naming three individuals involved in the finish of the match. JC Mateo, Tonga Loa — returning to TV — and the debut of Tala Tonga. Although Michael Cole and Wade Barrett never verbally mentioned his name during the match, the graphic made it clear. The former Hikuleo will now go by Tala Tonga in WWE.
This name change is another step in the rebranding of the group led by Solo Sikoa, who is ushering in a new era for the Bloodline, with fresh faces and bold strategies. The identity of Tala Tonga seems to have been carefully crafted to match the faction’s new direction without carrying the baggage of his NJPW past.
